ABOUT ME
My name is Rachael, and I am a watercolour illustrator based in Essex, creating warm, detailed illustrations inspired by the countryside, animals, home and everyday family life.
My work combines traditional watercolour with fine line drawing to create gentle, story-filled scenes with a strong sense of place and character.
I am particularly interested in children's publishing, editorial illustration and projects celebrating nature, seasonal living and the simple pleasures of everyday life.
When i was in college, studying fine art, I actually never used watercolour and always stuck to using oil and acrylic paint or just drawing in chalk and charcoal. One day, I was given a box of old watercolour paints and from my late grandad (he was a watercolour painter - mainly of landscapes and old buildings) so I decided to practise and make use of them.
I realised how much I loved using them and have never looked back!
I have had many commissions of peoples pets and homes over the last few years which has been really fun and I've been able to be quite creative with the portraits and making them totally unique.
One thing I really enjoy is creating a huge landscape piece with lots of detail and colour, although recently I have started a series about my dog, Olive, and one of my chickens, Karen, creating their own beautiful little world.
